Crystal Palace are to appoint Lucien Favre as Roy Hodgson’s successor at Selhurst Park with the club having started the complicated process of securing a work permit for the Swiss coach.
The 63-year-old, who left Borussia Dortmund seven months ago, had previously spoken with Fenerbahce and Lille over their managerial vacancies, but made clear in discussions with Palace that his preference was to work in the Premier League.
He is expected to sign a three-year contract and the hope is he will be in situ, COVID-19 quarantine permitting, to welcome his players back for pre-season training on July 5.
Favre has extensive experience of the Bundesliga and enjoyed a successful stint in charge at OGC Nice in France, with his teams known for their attack-minded football.
He has also embraced the opportunity to integrate younger players into the side, something that will appeal directly to the Palace ownership as they seek to rejuvenate an ageing squad.
