GALATASARAY boss Frank Rijkaard has his eyes on another Premier League raid after snapping up Everton's Lucas Neill.



The Dutchman, who is also keen to recruit Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid, is exploring the possibility of landing Tottenham winger Giovani dos Santos.

Any deal would be complicated as Neill will complete Gala's quota of foreign players when he arrives in Istanbul at the start of next week.

However, Rijkaard will move for the former Barcelona wide man if he can ship out former Everton midfielder Tobias Linderoth.

Dos Santos, 20, has been attracting interest from Portsmouth but their transfer embargo prevents them from taking him on loan.

The Mexico international impressed during a loan spell at Ipswich last year but has been unable to earn under a regular place at White Hart Lane, making only one Premier League appearance all season - in the 1-0 home defeat to Wolves.

Rijkaard showed his faith in the youngster during his time as Barca coach and is clearly a fan of his skills.

Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic, Pedro, Gérard Piqué... La liste des anciens pensionnaires de la cantera de La Masia à briller au sein de l’équipe première est longue. Nul doute que Giovani dos Santos aurait certainement aimé en faire partie. Annoncé comme très prometteur, l’international mexicain (22 sélections, 5 buts) avait préféré quitter le Camp Nou à l’été 2008, mécontent de son faible temps de jeu. Parti en Premier League à Tottenham, l’attaquant pensait certainement connaître plus de réussite... Depuis son arrivée chez les Spurs, il n’a fait que 7 apparitions en championnat...

Son prêt la saison passée du côté d’Ipswich (Championship, équivalent de la L2) lui avait permis de montrer qu’il n’avait rien perdu de ses qualités (4 buts en 8 apparitions). Son nom avait d’ailleurs été évoqué du côté de la Ligue 1 où l’Olympique Lyonnais et le Paris SG s’étaient penchés sur son cas. Finalement, le sosie de Ronaldinho pourrait rejoindre la SüperLig turque cet hiver. Le tabloïd anglais News of the World annonce en effet que Galatasaray serait très intéressé par sa venue. Un chèque aux alentours de 4 M€ suffira certainement à convaincre Harry Redknapp de le lâcher. Un tel transfert est largement dans les cordes du club stambouliote.

Son ancien entraîneur Frank Rijkaard semble convaincu de pouvoir le relancer sur les rives du Bosphore. Le technicien néerlandais souhaite lui offrir le temps de jeu dont il a besoin pour conserver toutes ses chances de disputer la prochaine Coupe du monde avec la sélection aztèque. À 20 ans, Giovani dos Santos a encore tout l’avenir devant lui. Un transfert en Turquie lui permettra sans doute de retrouver les qualités qui faisaient de lui l’un des espoirs les plus attendus du football mondial.
