Palace dismissed an offer they considered derisory for his services from Galatasaray last week, but the forward was still not available to face Everton. That was officially put down to a groin injury, but he has also been unsettled by the interest from Turkey. While Palace were missing too many chances for comfort at Hill Dickinson Stadium and succumbing 2-0, Sarr, the man they might have expected to take them, was absent.
The Senegal international is enticed by the option of joining Galatasaray and that presents an issue while the transfer window is open. Palace’s position, though, is that they cannot afford to lose him and will not consider a sale. He is too integral to the way they play; his finishing is the best of anyone at the club.
Had this come about earlier in the window and a club met their asking price — which Galatasaray have come nowhere near — then a move might have been a possibility. As it is, there has been nothing approaching a figure that would even give Palace pause for thought. They will not entertain offers.
The feeling is that, if Sarr’s focus is not there at present, it will return once the window has closed — although the Turkish Super Lig’s transfer window remains open until September 4, slightly longer than that in the Premier League.
