Arda Turan, the former Turkish footballer and now coach, has accepted a one-year prison sentence in Spain for tax fraud for failing to declare his income tax for 2015 and 2016. However, he will not go to prison.
In those years, Arda Turan was a player of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, as in the summer of 2015 he joined the Catalan giants.
'Europa Press' explained that at Tuesday's hearing at the 13th Criminal Court of the Ciutat de la Justicia in Barcelona, the Ottoman has acknowledged the facts and has accepted a sentence of six months for each of the offences.
He has also been fined €303,162 for the tax fraud for the 2015 financial year and another €330,000 for the 2016 financial year. Arda Turan has already paid part of the fine and will have to pay the rest in 6 four-monthly instalments.
In the prosecutor's statement, to which 'Europa Press' has had access, the prosecutor's office claims that Arda Turan "evaded his obligation to pay taxes in Spain, as he did not present the corresponding self-assessment for personal income tax despite having received significant income". In 2016 "he omitted to declare a significant volume of economic income linked to the exploitation of his image obtained worldwide".
